Robbery Prison Recommendation Changed to RID/DSP on Lesser Charge
Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon is a serious offense that carries a minimum of 5 years in prison and a maximum of life. Prison time is the norm for offenders convicted of this offense and 85% of all time received at sentence must be completed prior to any early release for good behavior.
In El Reno, Oklahoma, a young man with no convictions for prior offenses was initially charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and the Assistant District Attorney (ADA) assigned to the matter recommended a conviction with a prison sentence and probation after release. The evidence against the young man was substantial and included a confession to the crime.
Because the young man followed my advice and kept himself out of any further trouble I convinced the ADA to alter his recommendation. The charge was amended to another appropriate charge that allowed my client to go to RID/DSP (young offender boot camp) and keep open the possibility of escaping some of the more permanent consequences of the offense he was initially charged with. With hard work on his part, he can come away from this matter without a conviction and eventually even expunge this matter from the public records.
